NJ Governor declares September 23rd as ‘Bruce Springsteen Day’

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has formally declared that Bruce Springsteen’s birthday, September 23rd, will be known as ‘Bruce Springsteen Day’ across the state of NJ.  Governor Murphy presented the proclamation at the American Music Honors, which took place at the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music last week. Governor Murphy said in a statement: “Bruce Springsteen is one of the most recognizable, iconic and influential musicians – and New Jerseyans – of all time. It is important that we recognize Bruce for all he has done and will continue to do, from giving us the gift of his music to lending his time to the causes close to his heart, including making the Archives and Center for American Music a repository that will inspire tomorrow’s songwriters and singers. We thank him for showing the world what it means to live our New Jersey values. I am both honored and proud to declare his birthday Bruce Springsteen Day in New Jersey.” Read Governor Murphy’s official proclamation via nj.org.

The Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music preserves the legacy of Bruce Springsteen and celebrates the history of American music and its diversity of artists and genres. The Archives and Center for American Music held the inaugural American Music Honors, with honorees including E Street Band member Stevie Van Zandt; legendary soul artist Sam Moore of the ‘60s soul duo, Sam & Dave; longtime pop/soul singer Darlene Love; and country/blues/rock singer-songwriter and social commentator Steve Earle.

Springsteen returned to the road in February, marking Springsteen and The E Street Band’s first tour dates since February 2017, and their first in North America since September 2016. European dates for the 2023 international tour were announced ten months ago and sold over 1.2 million  At the conclusion of their European run in July 2023, Springsteen and The E Street Band will begin a second North American tour leg in August.
